Wheeler Yuta got a bit eager to prove himself tonight, and would accidentally double book himself between AEW & NJPW. This caused AEW to need to change a planned tag team match involving Yuta into something much bigger. Just a few days after a title defence against Penta El Zero Miedo, and a brutal beatdown by The Firm – Jon Moxley is in a singles match tonight. His opponent is none other than Matt Menard of the Jericho Appreciation Society, and should Menard get the win here tonight? He’ll be finding himself in a title match very soon, as this is a Championship Eliminator match.
Jon Moxley Is Not 100% Tonight, 48 Hours After A Title Defence And Beatdown
Menard would remain calm as this match began, as Angelo Parker would talk trash from the apron. Moxley took the bait, but got an elbow strike on Menard as he looked for a cheap shot. Menard was taken out to the floor, and Moxley would rake at the back. Moxley would take a punch to the midsection on the floor – and back in the ring, Menard would maintain the advantage.
Menard would be sticking the basics of pro wrestling in this match, keeping Moxley on the defensive… and distracting the referee as Parker got a cheap shot on the floor. Moxley would be driven groin first into the ring post. Menard would again distract the referee, as Parker shoved Moxley into the ring post.
Back in the ring, Moxley would hit a backdrop – before looking for ten downward punches in the corner. Menard would block and hit a powerbomb, before a Boston Crab would be applied – with Moxley getting to the bottom rope to break the hold. Moxley would spring from the mat with a cutter, before hitting King Kong Lariat.
Lee Moriarty Gets Shot At Jon Moxley On AEW Dynamite
Superplex would be set up and hit in the corner, getting a two count. Menard would kick out but ended up right in an ankle lock, but kicked his way free. Sunset Flip attempt led to Menard taking the Regal Knee, before the unguarded foot stomps. Parker hit the ring and took a cutter, allowing Menard to get a roll up for two before a DDT.
Moxley would be able to apply a Rear Naked Choke – and Menard realised it was over, tapping out instantly. After the match, Stokely Hathaway & Lee Moriarty would come to the ramp. Moxley would be challenged to a one on one match with Moriarty for AEW Dynamite – before showing a video package hyping up Moriarty.
Moxley agreed that Moriarty is talented, and Blackpool Combat Club is a fan of him. All you have to do to get a match with Moxley is ask, and he’d gladly accept another singles match for the upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite.
