The video of an elderly woman being eaten by a tiger in China has gone viral where it first built up steam on Instagram. As it turns out, the video is from years ago and was reported on back in October 2016 but the situation is still a frightening one six years later.
It’s Viral: 2016 Video of a Woman Being Killed by a Tiger in China After Trying to Save Daughter Returns on Instagram
The situation took place at the Badaling Wildlife Park has a car safari part where people simply refused to follow the rules at the time. In the car safari area, animals are allowed to roam about freely as they would in the wild and there are signs all along the route warning visitors to keep their windows and doors locked and rolled up.
There are also signs warning visitors to remain inside their vehicles. It’s no different from signs elsewhere telling visitors to keep their distance from the bison at Yellowstone or to not wander near ponds at Disney World.
Now, I missed this incident when it first occurred. Seeing it now and reading about similar incidents at either the same zoo or zoos with a car safari, it answered questions as to how the woman was in the position to be attacked in the first place.
The part of the video we see just shows a senior citizen getting dragged by a tiger outside of a car and eaten. However, the lead-up to the woman’s death involves an argument in a car between the driver and a young woman outside of the car.
She is snatched by a tiger prompting the driver and her mother to run to save her. While the young woman was saved, a second tiger appeared and attacked the mother, killing her.
The Zhao family sued the Badaling Wildlife Park for roughly $285,000 but the zoo refused to settle as precautions were taken and warnings were issued.
