Queen Elizabeth II was allegedly outraged by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to commercialise their royal titles.
Queen Elizabeth II Was Outraged By Harry And Meghan’s Attempt To Trademark ‘Sussex Royal’ For Money-‘Harry And Meghan Had Trespassed Dangerously,’ Says Robert Lacey
That is according to royal author Robert Lacey in his book entitled, ‘Battle of Brothers.’ There is no denying that the Sussexes have managed to monetise their royal titles by virtue of their lucrative Spotify and Netflix deals, which arguably would not have been possible without the titles.
In addition, their controversial interviews with Oprah Winfrey and ‘The Cut’ were based on discussing elements of royal life. While that may have been the case, it appears that Harry and Meghan wanted to take things further.
This included the notion that they planned on trademarking the term ‘Sussex Royal.’ And that is when Queen Elizabeth II allegedly stepped in to let them know this was not going to be tolerated.
In his book, Robert wrote: “By not disclosing their plans to market merchandise under their own royal trademark, Harry and Meghan had trespassed dangerously on that authority.
“To commercialise the crown required the crown’s consent — and the Sussexes had not sought that.” This should not come as a surprise since the move would have looked in poor taste.
By acting outside of the knowledge of the former monarch, it showed a complete disregard for the institution that had backed the couple’s marriage.
In addition, it would have been seen as a rival towards the current Royal Family, something which Piers Morgan has accused the couple of trying to do.
The fans on social media were equally damning towards this claim. A certain subset of people felt that Meghan was ultimately benefiting from the publicity by riding on the coattails of Harry.
One person wrote: “She’s as bad as they get and never wanted Harry to be happy. Even now her supporters are encouraging him to keep doing wrong.”
Without the Royal Family, the Sussexes have struggled to establish themselves as a credible brand. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
