This past Wednesday saw the start of the 2022 AEW World Championship Eliminator tournament, with Ethan Page defeating Eddie Kingston to advance. Now tonight, we see Dante Martin & Brian Cage continue this tournament. Both men are notably former members of Team Taz, and both having betrayed the now defunct faction. Cage now is employed by Prince Nana as the Ace of the Embassy – and tonight, has a chance to get back to challenging for the AEW World Championship for the first time since 2020.
Jack Perry Calls Out Luchasaurus For Steel Cage Match At Full Gear
Before this match, we had ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry promise to make his challenge for Full Gear clear tonight. Luchasaurus & Christian Cage were out first, Cage’s arm still in a sling. Perry would be asked to come make that challenge face to face – and he’d happily enter the ring with his former partners.
Cage would call him out for not actually being tough, and said he beat him in ten seconds, before Luchasaurus would also defeat him. Despite this, Perry cost Luchasaurus his chance to become AEW All-Atlantic Champion, which Cage said was the biggest disgrace Perry ever did – costing them a match.
Perry would speak about costs, as Cage & Luchasaurus cost him years of his career, especially Luchasaurus who Perry teamed with for years. They cost him everything, and now he wants revenge for this – and would challenge him to a Steel Cage match. It would be accepted, as Cage saw this as a chance to put him down for good.
Brian Cage Just Isn’t Human
Dante Martin would start fast with a dropkick, before being caught into a Fallaway Slam. Brian Cage would toss Martin away, only for him to land on his feet. Some running forearm smashes would follow, before Cage was sent to the floor with a dropkick. Martin would go for the suicide dive – and was caught into a vertical suplex, Cage showing his uncanny power.
Back in the ring, Cage would force Martin into the corner with some stiff strikes – before sending him off the ropes and dropping him with the back elbow smash. Martin would manage a jawbreaker, before a tornado DDT would be blocked into a sidewalk slam. An F5 would be blocked into a DDT, Martin getting a chance to breathe.
Forearm smashes would follow to the face of Cage, throwing ten in rapid succession before Cage was stunned. Irish whip into the corner would backfire, but Martin was able to swing to the apron and hit the enziguri before a flying crossbody off the top rope for a two count. Cage would miss a charge and get sent to the floor, before Martin hit a springboard body press to the floor.
Massive frog splash in the ring would get another two count, with Cage able to block an enziguri from the apron and looked for a superplex. Martin was able to block with a swift kick, but missed the 450 Splash and was run through with a lariat before a Full Nelson Slam for a two count. Weapon X would follow, and Cage moves to the next round – facing the victor of Lance Archer vs. Ricky Starks.
