I can’t begin to work out how many hours I’ve spent watching Ricky Steamboat’s matches and feuds. He’s one of the best in history, but for whatever reason it often feels like he’s overlooked.
Personally, I think he should’ve achieved greater heights in the WWE than the Intercontinental Championship, but while the WWE fell short with him he had a stellar career in the NWA.
Ricky Steamboat Returning to Team with FTR at a Big Time Wrestling Show
So many of his matches are classics to this day, with his match against Randy Savage at WrestleMania 3 considered the best my many. Shawn Michaels even said they use that match to teach talent how to pace and work a match.
It was heartbreaking when he was forced to retire in 1994 due to a back injury, but he wasn’t as done as we all thought.
The miracles of modern medical advances helped in allowing him to return to the ring in 2009’s WrestleMania 25 to team with Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka in a 3 on 1 handicap match against Chris Jericho.
His return to in ring action ended in 2010 where he appeared in a tag team match with his son, Richie Steamboat.
They faced Caylen Croft and Trent Barreta of the Dudebusters at an independent show.

Returning one more time
In a cool surprise for his fans. Steamboat is returning for another match at a Big Time Wrestling show on November 27.
He’ll team with FTR of AEW to face Jay Lethal, Brock Anderson, and a Mystery partner managed by Arn Anderson.
The also includes an appearance by Kane, Matt Hardy, and will have the Steiner Brothers Lex Luger, Teddy Long, Ron Simmons as well as the Briscoe Brothers facing the Rock ‘N’ Roll Express.
It looks like it’s going to be a fun time and there are so many favorites it’ll be hard to pick who we want to see more.
The tickets for the show are going for a reported $39.99 through the side we linked above, and it should be a fun one.
Cards are always subject to change, so we could see more added as well like possibly Ric Flair since Steamboat wasn’t able to his last match at Starrcast V and Flair has reportedly said he’d like another match.
