Back at NJPW x AEW Forbidden Door, we’d see a three way match with the IWGP & ROH Tag Team Championships on the line. It would be FTR who walked away with both belts, successfully defending the ROH belts, and adding the IWGP belts to their trophy case. Since then, title defences have been unfortunately sparse – with FTR only defending the IWGP belts once, defeating Aussie Open in the UK. However, FTR are on their way to Japan for a match on November 5th.
NJPW Announce FTR For Upcoming Show In Osaka
This was announced by NJPW Global on Twitter, confirming that FTR will be in the ring at the November 5th stop of the Battle Autumn tour in Osaka-Jo Hall. With numerous title matches booked already, this is a major event for NJPW. Adding in FTR defending the IWGP Tag Team Championships would only help to make the show feel even more important.
Right now, there are no formally named number one contenders for the belts. Recently Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan defeated Bishamon, with some viewing that as a match to decide who challenges FTR next. Both teams were former champions, and had claims at a title shot. Either would make for a big match for November 5th, and we are likely to see Cobb & O-Khan announced as challengers.
FTR Have Limited Experience Wrestling In Japan
This will mark the Japanese debut for FTR in NJPW, though they previously competed in Japan when they were part of the WWE roster. Their last match in Japan happened in 2019, when they defended the RAW Tag Team Championships against Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows. Prior to that, Dax Harwood worked for japanese promotion Zero-1 under the name KC Anderson in 2011.
We can only hope that they’re able to become more frequent names on NJPW tours, as it wouldn’t be a shock to see their in-ring abilities make them fan favorites in Japan. AEW & NJPW have a healthy working relationship, with the main hurdle previously being difficulties with getting talent to Japan with travel restrictions.
