Over the past few years, there have been a few attempts to make Lacey Evans into a star. The Marine turned professional wrestler has been seen in a few different gimmicks – none of which has been able to take her all the way to a championship. She would be involved in a six pack challenge on the latest episode of Smackdown Live, which was another major loss for Evans.
Lacey Evans Is Going Back To Basics
Following this match, Evans would be interviewed backstage by Cathy Kelley for a social media exclusive. Kelley would not that this could have been a career defining victory for Evans, with a chance to face Smackdown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series on the line. Evans would claim that it is time to go back to basics, and was quoted saying the following.
“I have done everything that I’ve needed to do to not only get my foot in this door but get opportunities. The glitz, the glamor, and every time I’ve come up short. Do you know what it is because I’ve got complacent in this lifestyle. I got comfortable, and to be honest with you, I have went out of my way to please everybody by myself. It’s time to go back to basics.”
Time For A Sgt. Slaughter Type Gimmick?
This could mean that Evans is going to go back to her pre-WWE roots, where she served as Military Police in the Marines. That is as solid a base for a gimmick as it gets in professional wrestling. WWE has a lot of support for the United States military, honouring them annually with the Tribute To The Troops events.
Despite this, we haven’t seen a gimmick rooted in military roots since Sgt. Slaughter – and Evans would be able to back it up with true experiences, unlike Robert Remus who never served.
