Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been slammed for their ‘Ripple of Hope Award’ that was issued by Robert F. Kennedy’s Human Rights organization.
Harry And Meghan Branded ‘Spoilt Brats’ Over Their ‘Ripple Of Hope Award’
The non-profit organization, headed by Kerry Kennedy, admitted that the Sussexes would be honoured for their courage in speaking out against ‘structural racism’ against the Royal Family.
While that may have been the case, critics of Harry and Meghan have alluded to the following points. First of all, they did not actually name the member of the Royal Family who had reservations about Archie’s skin colour.
Therefore, they had done nothing to address the perpetrators of racism. Secondly, outside of that Oprah interview, others have questioned what they have actually done in terms of tackling racism.
Paul Murray, who happens to be a host of Sky News Australia, had this to say: “[They] have not changed a single thing about the Royal Family.
“These two spoiled brats get another thing for their mantelpiece to say how good they are for doing nothing and making millions doing it.”
Those comments do hold some weight for the following reasons. First of all, Meghan entered as a biracial member of the Royal Family.
This gave her an opportunity to use her position to increase diversity and see the firm being more inclusive. However, the fact that she ended up leaving the firm in 2018 ended those possibilities.
Secondly, others have argued that Meghan has exploited issues of race. This was on the grounds that she had accused someone in the British media of calling her son the n-word during a controversial interview with ‘The Cut.’
But once again, she did not call out the person that was responsible. The sentiment on social media was much the same. A significant proportion of the fanbase felt that the Sussexes were setting a bad example and did not deserve the award.
One person wrote: “What sort of example is Harry and Meghan setting? You actually get rewarded for lying and doing nothing.”
So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
