An ex-BBC journalist has denounced the royals for their lack of action in the face of racist insults levelled at Meghan Markle when news of her relationship with Prince Harry became public.

Peter Hunt, a former BBC employee who was in the company for three decades, suggested that the Palace should have issued a public statement in response to the mistreatment.
In 2016, Harry released a declaration that denounced the media attention of his better half. The announcement expressed that “Meghan Markle has been targeted with a wave of mistreatment and bullying.”
And yet, the firm did not respond by issuing a public statement to back up what the Duke of Sussex had said.
Hunt declared that one of the problems was the Royal Family’s unwillingness to face confrontation with certain sections of the press, some of which have exhibited a clear unfriendliness towards the Sussexes.
In his comments, Hunt remarked: “That was an opportunity where the institution could have made it very clear this was not something they tolerated. Media need royals, royals need media.
“[They are] wary of unnecessarily aggravating them.” The media’s treatment of Meghan is being questioned in light of the disclosure that the Duchess of Sussex has had to deal with tangible death threats.
Ex-superintendent of counter-terror operations at the Metropolitan Police Neil Basu confirmed as much: “If you’d seen the stuff that was written and you were receiving it, the kind of rhetoric that’s online, if you don’t know what I know, you would feel under threat all of the time.”
The response on social media was mixed. While a certain subset of people agreed with Hunt’s stance on the matter, others felt that all members connected to the firm had suffered in some way.
Therefore, by singling out Meghan, it took away attention from other cases. One person wrote: “Who steps up for the Royal Family when they’re faced with threats?
“Do you Peter Hunt? You are talking like she was alone in this, some of the RF have even been attacked. Has she been physically attacked?”
