When it comes to the professional wrestling career of Brock Lesnar, he’s had some incredible rivals. Most fans might connect his name to The Undertaker or Roman Reigns when looking at his recent years, but perhaps his most defining rival was Kurt Angle. During his initial run in WWE, Lesnar & Angle raised the bar of main event matches – and they’d even clash in Japan over the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. However, they almost added another chapter to their story in TNA Wrestling in 2007.
Kurt Angle Claims Brock Lesnar Was Interested In Joining TNA
During the latest episode of The Kurt Angle Show, Angle would reveal that Lesnar reached out to him in 2007 to join TNA (now Impact Wrestling). Angle would have the following to say about Lesnar’s interest.
“Okay, Brock calls me. He’s not in WWE. He says, ‘Listen, man, can you get me in TNA? —’ I probably shouldn’t even be saying this, but you know what, Brock doesn’t care. So he said, ‘Hey, what are you making?’ I told him what I was making and he said, ‘If you can get me that, I’ll come.’I approached TNA, and they said, ‘No, we’re not going to give him that kind of money.
It was amazing because, I think that TNA at the time, I think they were at the top of their budget, where they couldn’t really give any more money out. I was making a lot of money. Sting was making a good bit of money, and then you had a bunch of guys on the roster. TNA, the Carter family funded it for a long time, and then TNA started making their own money, but it just wasn’t enough to bring in another guy for seven figures a year. I don’t think they were capable of doing that.”
Instead of joining up with TNA, Lesnar would instead start an MMA career – entering the UFC and winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Lesnar would return to WWE in 2013, and remains under contract in 2022 – currently feuding with Bobby Lashley. Do you think Lesnar joining TNA could have taken them to the next level?
