Over the course of 2022, we’ve seen the future of Ring of Honor secured by AEW owner Tony Khan. He would purchase the company from Sinclair Broadcasting Corporation, after it seemed like ROH might have been finished following Final Battle 2021. This has come with some growing pains, namely ROH content taking over AEW Dynamite & AEW Rampage programming as Khan shopped around for a TV deal. However, that is coming to an end after this week.
Tony Khan Alludes To Big Announcements Regarding Ring of Honor Following Final Battle
During the Final Battle 2022 media call, Tony Khan would say that after this week – he will be cutting down on how much Ring of Honor we see on AEW TV. He doesn’t want to overshadow AEW on it’s own platform, and intends to address the issue more following Final Battle 2022 this Saturday, including some potential news about a TV deal. Khan would say that AEW comes first and foremost, but ROH remains important – and doesn’t want either to take a backseat to the other.
He would also confirm that there is a lot of overlap between the creative teams for ROH & AEW, as well as the roster. Later in the media call when asked about Jake Roberts & Arn Anderson returning to TV, he would make a comment about ‘more contents and more hours’ making it possible to get them back on TV, again hinting towards an announcement following Final Battle.
ROH Needs It’s Own Space To Breathe In 2023
Right now, the bulk of the ROH content on AEW TV is centred around Chris Jericho and his defences of the ROH World Championship. Considering it’s led to fantastic matches against the likes of Bandido & Tomohiro Ishii, it’s hard to view it as a negative. Most ROH content has been focused on AEW mainstays, with the likes of FTR also being key figures in ROH going forward.
Despite all this, it will be a welcome change of pace for Ring of Honor to get their own dedicated show once again. We can only hope that that is the announcement coming this week, and that we get to see more of the ROH roster formally announced during the event. Did you mind the ROH content on AEW TV?
