Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton has received a new title after her father-in-law, King Charles III named her the new honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards – which is befitting as she has been honoring that guards regiment most St. Patrick’s Day holidays since she married prince William in 2011.
Kate Middleton usually dons a green ensemble to greet the Irish Guards at the parade. There’s also an appearance from regimental mascot Irish wolfhound, Turlough Mor and a toast with Guinness! The Princess of Wales is actually taking over this role from her husband, Prince William, who was named honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards by the late Queen in 2011, just two months before the duo got married.

William wore the red Irish Guards officer uniform for his wedding at Westminster Abbey. The royal prince also has a new royal role – Colonel of the Welsh Guards. King Charles announced the titles during a speech given a day after Queen Elizabeth passed away. Queen consort, Camilla has also been confirmed by her husband, the King, as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards. Recall that this honor was stripped off Prince Andrew by the late Queen.
The first public celebration of King Charles’ birthday, (Trooping the Colour), as announced by the palace, will take place on June 17, 2023, 6 weeks after his coronation, which will take place on May 6. The King’s birthday is in November, bu he will follow in his late mother, Queen Elizabeth’s footsteps and celebrate in June because the month has better weather. Over 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians will attend the parade.
While some members of the royal family will participate on horseback, others will ride carriage from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards. After that, the King will take the salute at the parade. The royals will then gather on the balcony of the Buckingham Palace to watch a flypast by Royal Air Force jets and the Red Arrows.
