AEW shows are getting a much needed facelift to kick off 2023, with Tony Khan hoping to bring back in the fans they’ve lost during a down period in mid-2022. However, while we’ve gotten a taste of the new graphics for TV – Khan has now confirmed there will be also be changes to the sets AEW uses for Dynamite, Rampage and PPV’s.
Tony Khan Hypes Up New Sets & Presentations For AEW In 2023
While speaking with Fightful on their Grapsody podcast, Khan would confirm that AEW isn’t just updating their TV production starting on January 4th, 2023 – but also bringing out fresh sets for the shows.
“The wrestling is going to be the same great wrestlers and the same great fans, but it’s in a new city, Seattle, and the look, the changes to the set, and the presentation are going to be changes that we’re going to keep. I’m really looking forward to the new look for the show. I find, in wrestling, when you overpromise, you can disappoint people. It’s a set and a presentation. At the end of the day, the most important thing is what the fans bring, what the wrestlers and the staff of AEW and the crew bring every week, but the look of the show is important too and it’s going to look really cool.”
AEW has more or less had their shows looking the same since they returned to arenas around the United States in 2021. This has been a fine look, with some comparing it to 2008 WWE sets. Even at PPV events, there wasn’t much deviation – which makes these upcoming changes much more insticing for fans.
It will take more than just fancy new graphics and a fresh set to win back lost fans, with Khan needing to tighten up his booking habits as well. Fans are upset with fan favorites like Miro being kept off TV, meaningless matches being thrown on TV, and an overabundance of Ring of Honor content being pushed on the already limited AEW TV time.
