King Charles III presented his first Christmas speech as monarch, which included his cherished mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, and also his son and daughter-in-law, Prince William and Princess Kate.

In his first address as King in September, Charles did include the names of his youngest son and daughter-in-law, Prince Harry and Meghan.
This time, however, their names were not mentioned, and those keeping track of the royal family’s dispute were keen to find out if they would be brought up after their shocking Netflix documentary series was released this month.
This should not come as a surprise, though, as during his first speech to the nation, Charles made it clear that he wished the couple the best with their lives overseas.
In addition, given that the speech was trying to unite the country at a time where people are struggling with the cost of living crisis, the last thing that people needed to see was more disunity.
Nevertheless, their absence from the speech also raises further questions. First of all, will the Sussexes attend Charles’ coronation next year? After all, it is set to go ahead on Saturday, 6th May 2023 which happens to be the same day as Archie’s 4th birthday.
Secondly, there are also questions over whether the firm will respond to Harry’s upcoming memoir, Spare, or will they ignore the Sussexes much in the same way as the Christmas speech?
The response on social media was not one of surprise. A large number of people made it clear that the Sussexes’ conduct meant it was not reasonable for people to expect them to get a mention.
One person wrote: “If my son and his new wife had proven to be nasty trouble makers with a history of dumping on family who no longer serve their agenda I wouldn’t mention them either.”
