WWE fans were worried that for the first time in two decades, John Cena might not have a match. The transition to Hollywood has kept the 16 time world champion very busy, but Cena will always try to find time for WWE. Simply put, this man loves professional wrestling – and a text to Kevin Owens ahead of their upcoming tag team match with Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn set for the December 30th episode of Smackdown Live proves this.
John Cena Randomly Texted Kevin Owens “I LOVE WRESTLING”
While appearing on the Cheap Heat podcast, Kevin Owens would detail a random text message he got from John Cena at 1am.
“We text here and there. The text messages…I’m not going to say that I actually use the emojis that he described, but it’s a lot like that. We talk about some silly stuff. ‘Remember when we had this match and this happened,’ stuff like that. We haven’t really discussed the upcoming SmackDown just yet. He’s very excited. The last text I got from him was, ‘I LOVE WRESTLING’ in all caps. Unprompted. I don’t know what he was doing. No idea. I think it was 1 AM. I don’t know where he was in the world.”
Cena Has Wrestled Atleast One Match A Year Since His Debut In 1999
Right now, John Cena is also being factored into the early plans for WrestleMania 39. His acting schedule is light in the first quarter of 2023, giving hope of having him in the ring for one of the nights of WrestleMania action. Cena is firmly a part-time WWE name at this point, but his decades of endless work for the company as their top name earned him that spot.
It’s hard to deny that the excitement of Cena showing up on a show is a draw for WWE, proven by the Summer of Cena in 2021, which led to high WWE live event attendance. The upcoming match on Smackdown Live will ensure that Cena has wrestled atleast one match every year since 1999, and a match in WWE every year since his Sunday Night Heat dark match debut as Prototype in 2000.
At his peak from 2009 to 2012, Cena wrestled between 172 to 202 matches a year. Are you excited to see John Cena & Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
