It doesn’t take much for Wheeler Yuta to look for a fight, and the cowardly way Swerve Strickland took down Keith Lee has him heated. There is no honor in the body of Swerve. He’d confront Swerve on AEW Dynamite, and challenged him to a match tonight on the final episode of AEW Rampage for 2022. This has been a year of rapid growth for Yuta, with him winning the ROH Pure Rules Championship twice, competing in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament, and joining Blackpool Combat club – and he looks to prove that here tonight against Swerve Strickland.
Wheeler Yuta Chooses To Not Bring Backup
Yuta was extra gutsy tonight – leaving Claudio Castagnoli in the back, while Strickland was flanked by Parker Boudreaux & Granden Goetzman – the men who helped take Lee out. The crowd was 100% behind Yuta, with him showing his technical wrestling skills in keeping Swerve on the mat. Top wrist lock would force Swerve into a neck bridge, allowing him to slip free.
Swerve would look for a single leg crab, before being kicked in the face. Yuta would hit a scoop slam into a jumping senton, but only got a one count. Yuta would block a suplex with a knee to the face, before going for the single leg crab – only to shift the hold into a Bow & Arrow Stretch. Swerve was able to slip to the floor, and his grunts would prevent a dive from Yuta.
Able to gain the upperhand thanks to Parker & Granden, Swerve would hit a missile dropkick to the back of the knee. Back in the ring, Swerve would lay in the strikes in the middle of the ring – forcing Yuta to fight back only to go after the leg again with a Dragon Screw Legdrop. Swerve would hit a trio of backbreakers, getting a two count in the process.
Yuta would be able to take Swerve down with a headscissor, following up with some back body drops. Swerve looked for a Small Package, but Yuta was able to counter into the pinfall himself – getting a two count. Yuta would slam the face of Swerve into the turnbuckle before the diving elbow smash.
Swerve Strickland Picks His Chance To Cheat
With one good leg, Yuta would kip up – before a German Suplex with a one legged bridge. Swerve would kick Yuta in the knee, before nailing a brainbuster for a two count. Yuta used a drop step to try and get another German Suplex, only for Swerve to counter and look for the JML Driver. Swerve was blocked, but gained control of the pinfall using the tights of Yuta.
Yuta would be kicked into the ropes, but would come back with the modified Angle Slam for a two count. Swerve would manage to trap the knee of Yuta in the rope for a dropkick, but was unable to follow up with the Swerve Stomp. Yuta fought through the pain and hit an enziguri before the superplex.
Hammer & Anvil elbows set up the Seatbelt, with Swerve slipping free and hitting the House Call for two. JML Driver was blocked, with Swerve driven into the referee. Knowing he was free to cheat, Swerve hit a low blow and JML Driver for the victory.
