NXT is in a rebuilding and retooling period. Throughout the first half of the year, look for many of the wrestlers that you see down there to be moved to the main roster and replaced by fresh faces. These are some of those faces that will have a big year this year.
Scrypts
This is an interesting choice to start off the list. Scrypts is a masked wrestler who attacked Ikemen Jiro after he won a match.
Scrypts is former WWE manager, Reggie, under a mask. This was surprising to me in two ways.
First of all, I didn’t really know if Reggie could wrestle or not. He didn’t do much in the ring before this aside from the 24/7 title crap.
Secondly, he is someone who I could see being more of a character than an actual wrestler.
With that second thought, I think that he will land somewhere in between. He has shown that he can play a character and get that character over, but with his natural athleticism, he could probably do a lot.
I don’t see him winning any titles this year but he could be involved in some memorable storylines for NXT in 2023.
Nikkita Lyons
It seemed like last year should have been her year, but she just wasn’t ready. Also, every few months, it seemed like she said or did something to piss fans off which is something that you don’t want to do as a babyface.
She still got a way to go in the ring, but I think that WWE want to make her work and the fans want her to work. It all depends on if she can put it all together in the ring and on the mic.
With the women’s division going through some changes and talent getting better and better, I hope that she can keep up enough to make waves.
She has unique size and a great look for a star in the NXT women’s division. I think that she is one or two solid storylines away from making it big and this year, she will take that leap.
Dragon Lee
Before you come for me, here me out. Dragon Lee does not need to be in NXT. There has been a lot of talent that didn’t need to be in NXT, but they are there for a reason.
I think that he is there to stabilize NXT for a year or two. He is young, so it isn’t a big deal as long as they book him correctly.
Could he go straight to Raw or Smackdown? Sure, but what would he be doing there against already established stars?
On NXT, he could have a brand all to himself and do whatever he wants to do. He can work with a lot of the young guys they have down there and be the face of the new NXT.
Hopefully they take their time with him and don’t rush him to the top right away. If he debuts later this month or next month, he could have a feud or two before they start putting him into the title picture.
Also, wrestlers are usually sent to NXT to learn how to work the “WWE style” which includes positioning in ring, pace, psychology, and how to emote during the matches. There is never anything wrong with a little more polish.
