Prince Harry has shared a heartbreaking memory in his recent memoir wherein he recalled driving through the Paris tunnel, where his mother Princess Diana died, at the same speed.
Prince Harry Recalls Driving Through The Paris Tunnel Where His Mother Died-‘This Is NOT Healthy’
The 38-year-old Duke of Sussex opened up about the different ways in which he has dealt with his mother’s death in his book Spare. In 2007, the then 23-year-old Harry was present Paris for the Rugby World Cup.
As he was being driven around, Harry remembered inquiring about being taken down the Alma underpass where his mother, Diana, passed away in 1997.
He also wanted them to traverse the tunnel at 65 miles per hour, the same velocity that Diana’s chauffeur was driving when the calamitous accident happened.
Harry spoke about how the driver was taken aback when he requested to be taken through the tunnel where his mother had passed away.
He noted he hardly experienced any emotion when he stepped into the passage. In his book, Harry wrote: “[This was] the bump that supposedly sent Mummy’s Mercedes veering off course.”
Harry remembered keeping track of the lamps and columns inside as his car raced through, but was astonished at how brief it was when he came out. He said he had expected the tunnel was a risky course, yet was stunned to recognise it was a ‘no-frills tunnel’.
He detailed conversing with Prince William about the tunnel where their mother had passed away after he had experienced it himself.
The duo then decided to go through it once more, together, after which Harry said they addressed their mother’s mishap out loud for the first time.
The fans on social media questioned whether this was a wise move by Harry since it could have had the impact of making things worse.
One person wrote: “Oh my! He did what? Harry, this is NOT healthy. OK, doing it is one thing, maybe a route to closure. But TELLING everyone?”
