One of the worst kept secrets in professional wrestling right now is the intentions of Cody Rhodes to return at the Royal Rumble later this month. Out of the ring with a torn pec suffered while training ahead of his Hell In A Cell match with Seth Rollins, this injury has a lot more attention than usual, due to him working the match with visible bruising from the injury. His timeline always put him back in time for WrestleMania 38, with heavy hope of a Royal Rumble return. However, he has another invitation for a return in WWE – this one to the NXT brand.
Grayson Waller Calls Out Cody Rhodes
Known for stirring the pot, the loud mouthed Australian born superstar Grayson Waller would call out Rhodes for a match down in NXT, wanting to know ‘if he still has it’. While speaking on Steve Fall’s Ten Count podcast, Waller had the following to say when asked who from the main roster he wants to wrestle next.
“The number one guy for me right now is Cody Rhodes. I know he’s hurt right now, but he works out like a demon, and I’m sure he’s ready to go before people know. I want to see him come back down here. His dad built this place, right? This is his dad’s house. Come visit. This is my house now. I moved in. Knock on the door. I’ll open the door for you, wipe your feet, come into my house, and let’s see if you still got it after that injury.”
Dusty Rhodes had a massive role in making NXT the brand it is today, helping to train many WWE top stars. He’s honored annually with the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, which is expected to start within the coming weeks.
A Perfect Match For NXT Vengeance Day
Waller has worked with three names known for their time on the WWE main roster in 2022, working a match with AJ Styles, R-Truth, and a full feud against Apollo Crews. He’s primed for major success in WWE, with a possible call up coming this year. He will face Bron Breakker for the NXT Championship this coming Tuesday at NXT New Years Evil, which is the biggest match of his career to date.
It seems likely given the success of Waller in 2022 and Rhodes wanting to work as many matches as possible post injury, that we could see this match at a show like NXT Vengeance Day, the first NXT PPV on the road since Stand & Deliver 2022, which is set for Charlotte, North Carolina – the hometown of Rhodes.
