Prince Harry has emphatically stated that it would have been impossible for him to have permitted his brother, Prince William, to walk solo behind their late mother, Princess Diana’s casket.
Prince Harry And Prince William Would Have Refused To Let Each Other Walk Alone Behind Diana’s Coffin
The two princes were part of the procession of Diana’s funeral at Westminster Abbey in 1997. During his interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby, the Duke of Sussex stated that when the choice was made for them to traverse the route, he and his brother jested that they were already familiar with it when they walked it together for the Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2020.
But the fact that they had to walk behind the coffin when they were very young is not something that sat well with Harry. In his comments, he said: “There’s absolutely no way that I would let him do that by himself.
“And there’s absolutely no way that he would let me do that by myself. It was, if it was role reversal.” Harry frequently talks about the passing of his mother in his memoir, Spare.
The prince mentioned that King Charles III addressed him as ‘my dear son’ prior to informing him that his mom was unlikely to make it through the head injuries caused by the accident in Paris in 1997.
He portrayed his father as someone not good at expressing his feelings and emotions. In his book, Harry wrote: “What I do remember with stunning clarity is that I did not cry. Not a tear. My father did not hug me.”
The fans on social media resonated with what Harry had to say. A certain subset of people understood that the experience would have taken its toll on Harry.
One person wrote: “They shouldn’t have been made to walk behind the coffin. Having said that, there comes a time where you put things away and move on.”
