UFC’s Daniel Cormier Wants To See Sean O’Malley And Henry Cejudo Fight

Daniel Cormier, the UFC Hall of Famer and a former UFC two-division champion, recently expressed his interest in seeing a fight between the rising star Sean O’Malley and Henry Cejudo. He says that the fight should be of great importance, however, it should be for the number one contender spot, not for an interim title.

The reason behind this last-minute re-arrangement in the Bantamweight division happens as result of Aljamain Sterling’s recently announced long layoff. The champion tore his bicep and he will be out of the game for quite some time. Rumors were that the Funk Master Aljamain Sterling will defend his title against Henry Cejudo in March. However, now with him out of the game, according to Daniel Cormier, the reasonable replacement would be Sean O’Malley.

Daniel Cormier Wants To See Sean O’Malley And Henry Cejudo Fight

In a video for his YouTube channel, Daniel Cormier expressed his interest in seeing the rumored fight between Sean O’Malley and Henry Cejudo.

“O’Malley said he would fight Cejudo if ‘Aljo’s unavailable. I’m in on that one. Don’t do an interim, though.” – Daniel Cormier told. “Aljamain Sterling is the champion. He deserves time because he’s active for so long and he fought everyone. Whoever they put in front of him, he fights… Honestly, he needs to be the one to fight Cejudo because it takes away all of the questions from the disqualification against Petr Yan in their first fight.”

The situation with Aljamain Sterling’s injury is delicate for the UFC. Many people suggest that the promotion should just keep on rolling if Sterling is out of the game for a long time. According to many, he should be stripped of his title, and he should fight for the title again, once he gets better. However, Daniel Cormier thinks that the promotion should have some more respect for the champion. He most certainly deserves better.

Aljamain Sterling had 2 successful defenses of his title in 2022. However, throughout the process, he suffered a serious injury. An injury that could potentially put him away from competition for a long time.

The champion assured the public that he should be able to fight again in April. However, looking at it at the moment, this is very optimistic thinking. Daniel Cormier suggests that Sterling would not be back in the octagon for quite some time.

“It sounds like the champ is taking a stand with the torn bicep, so I don’t think we will see him in the octagon anytime soon… He’s a real champ now. You can’t doubt the ‘Funk Master’, and if you’re not prepared, this dude will drag you into the deep waters. I cannot wait to see him back. Be 100% healthy, though, if you’re gonna fight Henry Cejudo.” – Daniel Cormier expressed his concern about Aljamain’s condition.
