Last night, we got a surprise debut as part of the 205 Live. The planned match between The 205 Originals and Team NXT was down one man. This was due to Team NXT’s captain, Lio Rush being taken out by Jack Gallagher. Team NXT couldn’t have made a better pick than KUSHIDA. Will he become a consistent presence on 205 Live going forward?
KUSHIDA Hasn’t Made A Splash In NXT
Despite coming in with a good deal of hype, KUSHIDA hasn’t exactly set the world on fire with his time in NXT. He has had some fantastic matches with people like Kassius Ohno, WALTER & Adam Cole, but it feels like he won’t reach the heights of NXT Champion, and his reunion with Alex Shelley was short lived ending any chance of a Time Splitters run for the NXT Tag Team Championships.
205 Live Is In Desperate Need Of Stars
While 205 Live is home to some of the best action in all of WWE, it is a show which many fans will skip in the bloated week of WWE content. They need to put some major stars on this brand, even as guests. People like Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor, Adam Cole and Daniel Bryan all easily make the 205 Weight limit and could boost the brands reputation. While we are unlikely to see them show up, KUSHIDA now has. While his time in NXT hasn’t been incredible, when he shows up it gets people watching. He built up a massive fanbase during his time in NJPW, fans that WWE are still trying to pull back in.
KUSHIDA Left NJPW Because He Was Stuck As A Junior
One thing that WWE needs to be careful around is the reason KUSHIDA is with them in the first place. During his time in NJPW, he would become the ace of the Junior Heavyweight division. Because of this, he was unable to branch out and join the Heavyweights, where his technical abilities would make up for his size difference. KUSHIDA would remain on NXT, and his presence on 205 Live would have to be his side role. The two brands are starting to exist hand-in-hand, and a follow up match with Jack Gallagher makes too much sense.
Do you think KUSHIDA could potentially become the ace of the Cruiserweight division? Let us know what you think in the comments section down below.
