When it comes to tag teams over the past two decades, one team was the golden standard on the indies. Mark & Jay Briscoe travelled the world as part of Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, becoming 13 time ROH World Tag Team Champions. Jay Briscoe in particular also found singles success, being a two time ROH World Champion. However, at just 38 years old – Jay Briscoe has passed away.
Jay Briscoe Has Passed Away At 38 Years Old
This news would be confirmed by the owner of Ring of Honor, Tony Khan. Khan would say the following in the memory of Jay Briscoe.
“Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today. Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin”
At the time of writing, the cause of his death is unknown. Briscoe last wrestled at House of Glory Revelations, where The Mane Event won the HOG Tag Team Championships in a Best Two Out Of Three Falls match. Needless to say, this is heartbreaking news. Briscoe was not only known as one of the best in the world in the ring, but was a respected name backstage – a true locker room leader.
With The Briscoes having held the ROH World Tag Team Championships, new champions will have to be crowned – with the potential of a Jay Briscoe Memorial Tournament to honor his memory while finding new champions.
We here at TheOvertimer send our condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Jay Briscoe. He will be sorely missed in professional wrestling industry, and his death can simply be described as tragic. 38 is too young for anyone to pass away.
