Prince Harry spoke about the occasion when Meghan Markle curtsied for Queen Elizabeth II, the late British monarch, for the first time.
Prince Harry Recalls Meghan’s ‘Flawless Curtsy’ To Queen Elizabeth II
In his book, Spare, the Duke of Sussex remembers how when the couple was at the Royal Lodge in 2016, his then-girlfriend bowed to members of the Royal Family, including the late Queen.
However, the Duke’s memory of the curtsy differs slightly from how Meghan portrayed it in their Netflix docuseries, where she claimed it felt like something from “Medieval Times”.
According to the Duke, he and Meghan were heading to the official abode of Prince Andrew, to greet Sarah Ferguson, their daughter Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank.
Meghan was already acquainted with Eugenie as the two had attended a Halloween bash together in the same month before her romance with Harry became publicly known.
They were not aware that the Queen would be there when they arrived and that she would surprise them with her visit.
In his book, Harry wrote: “We entered the large front sitting room and there she was. Granny. The monarch. Queen Elizabeth II.
“Standing in the middle of the room. She turned slightly. Meg went straight to her and dropped a deep, flawless curtsy. ‘Your Majesty. Pleasure to meet you.”
Harry divulged that the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, assisted Meghan in learning how to curtsy, showing her the technique with Meghan repeating it afterwards.
And yet, in 2021, Meghan confessed during the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey that she was unaware that she was supposed to curtsy when she encountered the late Queen.
With that being said, Meghan’s comments about the whole thing in the Netflix docuseries was seen as disrespecting Queen Elizabeth II.
Now that Meghan is no longer a part of the firm, she will not have to worry about this anytime soon.
