Recently, we would see New Japan Pro Wrestling’s top star – Kazuchika Okada, pitch a big idea for the professional wrestling industry in 2023. He wants to have a hand in putting together a large scale Pro Wrestling World Cup. Talent from around the world would unite in the name of national pride, to see which country produces the greatest professional wrestlers. He would say he would ask the likes of Tony Khan & Triple H to help out, and Tony Khan has heard this call.
Tony Khan Is Open To A Pro Wrestling World Cup
While speaking to Tim Battle on the Battleground podcast, Tony Khan would bring up the potential of a Pro Wrestling World Cup – citing his experience working with other companies to put on a great show, especially New Japan Pro Wrestling.
“I’ve got experience working with different promotions and promoting angles, matches, and storylines across different companies. It can be challenging, but we came together with New Japan Pro Wrestling to put on, I think, the best pay-per-view of the year last year Forbidden Door. There are challenges to putting on an event like that, and getting the matches set, but it’s certainly something I would be open to. I’m open to working with anybody in pro wrestling. You never know.”
Triple H & WWE Are The Limiting Factor In A Pro Wrestling World Cup
Considering Kazuchika Okada has appeared on AEW Dynamite and wrestled at Forbidden Door – Tony Khan was not the challenging name in this situation. AEW has proven they’re willing to work with anyone for the good of the industry – while WWE remains a more closed off company.
Even with Triple H recently taking charge of the creative direction of the company and allowing Shinsuke Nakamura to wrestle in Pro Wrestling NOAH against The Great Muta – it seems unlikely WWE will get on board with a Pro Wrestling World Cup. AEW is on board however, which is a good start to what could be a truly epic event.
