Jamie Hayter deeply respects everything Emi Sakura has done for the professional wrestling industry, viewing her as a living legend. Because of this, tonight she is giving Sakura a chance to earn a shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship. The belt is not on the line tonight, but if Sakura is able to defeat Hayter – she will get a future title shot, marking the second time she challenged for the belt – having faced Riho at Full Gear 2019.

Emi Sakura Uses Her Veteran Instincts Against Jamie Hayter

Hayter would try to lock up with Sakura in the middle of the ring, but being ducked twice. She’d be able to run down Sakura with a back elbow, only for Sakura to strike back with some chops before taking this match to the floor, whipping Hayter from the ring to the barricade time and time again. Sakura would follow up with a running crossbody, crushing Hayter into the steel again.

Hayter would be rolled into the ring, and took an elbow drop to the back. Surfboard Stretch would be set up by Sakura, with Hayter being held up by her joints before simply being launched. Hayter would get into a scrap on the floor with Mei Sugiura, allowing Sakura to maintain the advantage with some more heavy shots in the ring.

Sakura would have a focused flurry of chops in the corner, which would just fire Hayter up for some shots of her own. Hayter would lose out, being beaten back into a corner and having an elbow ground into her face. Sakura would be again fought off with chops, with both ladies having their chests turning red from the chops.

    Hayter. Hits. HARD!

Hayter would be able to nail a trio of Exploder Suplexes, before the running back elbow into the corner. Sakura would block a lariat with a boot, but was unable to keep control. HateBreaker would land, with Sakura able to kick out before three. Sakura would show Hayter that she knows how to do backbreakers as well, hitting a delayed Butterfly Backbrearker.

Hayter would send Sakura to the mat and try for the sliding lariat, being blocked into a Crucifix Pinfall. Death Valley Driver would set up another sliding lariat, getting Hater a two count this time. A moonsault would be avoided by Sakura, getting a near fall off a roll up before the Tiger Driver yet another nail biting pinfall.

Sakura would nail a moonsault, with Hayter once again kicking out – not wanting to give in despite being outplayed by her challenger. Some stiff shots to the face would follow from Sakura, with Hayter taking 10 shots to deliver one BIG lariat. Ripcord Lariat would be set, but Sakura blocked into a Backdrop Driver.

Fighting spirit would flow, and Hayter would roll to her feet and knocked Sakura down with a lariat. Haterade Lariat would follow from Hayter – and she would defeat one of her idols. Just a fantastic fight from both ladies, and hopefully this isn’t the last time we see Emi Sakura on AEW TV this year.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
