This past episode of Monday Night RAW was the first time since he became a star that Stone Cold Steve Austin didn’t get a huge crowd reaction. That was because he made his way to the ring set up in an empty WWE Performance Center, to celebrate 3:16 Day. While this ended up being the best segment on the entire show, with clips getting hundreds of thousands of retweets and likes on Twitter, it was not the planned route.
Stone Cold Was Going To Work With The Monday Night Messiah
Had things went according to plan, we would have seen ‘The Monday Night Messiah’ come down to the ring to interrupt the WWE legend. Reports indicate that this was the original plan. We would have seen Seth Rollins and his disciples come down to ruin the celebration of 3:16 day, and Rollins himself would eat a stunner from both Steve Austin, and Kevin Owens who would have come to the ring as well. This would have helped along the way to Rollins vs. Owens at Wrestlemania, and perhaps even placed Stone Cold in a guest referee or enforcer role to ensure Murphy & Authors of Pain stay out of the match.
Instead He Drank Beers and Raised Hell With Becky Lynch
While the original plan would have been great to advancing the storyline of the Monday Night Messiah, what we got was fantastic. Stone Cold came to the ring to announce that March 16th will now be a huge holiday where you do whatever the hell you want. He would be graded on his claims by Byron Saxton who sat at commentary and gave feedback. Byron would be invited to the ring where he would take a huge stunner as the beer bash continued. Becky Lynch would make her way to the ring as well, and have some beers and raise some more hell.
It was a perfect use of Stone Cold, and have this bleak episode of RAW which was dominated by a replay of Royal Rumble something memorable of it’s own. Fans and critics alike loved it, and if we’re not going to get many matches on WWE programming aside from at Wrestlemania, segments like this are the way to go.
