Charlotte Flair Had No Fear Of Losing WWE Spot Despite 8 Month Absence

On the final episode of Smackdown Live of 2022, we would see Ronda Rousey take to her limits by rising star Raquel Rodriguez. Rousey was able to retain the Smackdown Women’s Championship – only for the music of Charlotte Flair to hit. She would demand a title shot, and a few minutes later was champion once again, despite taking nearly eight months off from the ring following a loss in an I Quit match to Rousey at WrestleMania Backlash.

Charlotte Flair Wasn’t Worried About Taking Her Spot

While speaking with Ryan Satin on the Out of Character podcast, Charlotte Flair had a chance to speak about her time away.

“I never worry about somebody replacing me or taking my spot. What I was feeling was like, ‘What am I doing? It’s been eight months and I haven’t done anything. Realistically, I got married. I had all these dental procedures. I was able to travel the world. But professionally, what am I doing?’

One day I’d be like, ‘You’ve been non-stop since like 2012. Relax. Maybe this is a growing period.’ But then I’d be like, ‘No, I’ve gotta be doing something.’ I went back and forth, back and forth.

“I’m someone that likes to be in control, and I didn’t feel like I was in control. So that’s more what I worried about, was not progressing at something, whether personally or professionally. But someone taking my spot? No.”

Rhea Ripley Chose Flair As Her Opponent For WrestleMania 39

We already know what Flair will be doing at WrestleMania 39, being in one of the featured matches on the event. She was the champion chosen by Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley. This is a match contrasting when Flair chose to wrestle the then NXT Women’s Champion Ripley at WrestleMania 36.

Flair will be defending the Smackdown Women’s Championship against Sonya Deville this Friday on Smackdown Live. It is a match that Flair is expected to win with ease. Any more title defences between now and WrestleMania 39 for Flair will be tense matches for Ripley to watch, with a WrestleMania victory over Flair meaning more than a title.

Will Rhea Ripley defeat Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
