The assertions and disclosures made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle against the Royal Family have been deemed a distraction without having much of an effect on the monarchy.
The Harry And Meghan Drama Has Not Impacted The Royal Family’s Popularity In Australia-Says Monarchist Eric Abetz
That is according to Eric Abetz, who is the former is the ex-senator of Tasmania and the new head of the Australian Monarchist League (AML).
Following the release of a six-episode documentary series about the Sussexes aired by Netflix, Harry engaged in a number of talks to publicize the release of his own book, Spare.
During his conversations with American reporter Anderson Cooper, Harry stated that Queen Consort Camilla had been obsessed with wanting to improve her reputation and that she was willing to deal with the press to attain that.
In response, Bill Shorten, the Minister for Government Services in Australia, declared that the media accounts of the disagreement among the Royal Family exposed the level of hostility.
He further asserted that these reports and the ongoing conflict raised questions about the nation’s relationship with the monarchy in the future. In his comments at the time, he said: “At one level, it’s gossip.
“At another level, it’s a shame to see a family bust-up, but perhaps at the deepest level, why do we still need to keep following a dysfunctional British family to be the head of state of Australia?”
While that may have been the case, Eric denied anything of the sort. This was on the basis that Queen Elizabeth II had left a long legacy on the country.
And given that she had just passed last year, she had done enough to keep a positive impression of the monarchy, irrespective of what the Sussexes had to say.
His following comments confirmed as much: “The soap opera of Harry and Meghan is a side show and the Australian people can and do differentiate between personalities and the system.
“This has not impacted the sentiment of the Australian people to the constitutional monarchy.” So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
