On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Terrence Higgins Trust, Prince Harry commended his late mother, Princess Diana, Princess of Wales.
Prince Harry Praises Diana’s Efforts To Tackle HIV-‘I Feel Immense Pride’
The Duke of Sussex paid tribute to the UK’s primary HIV and sexual health organization and emphasized that the effort to put an end to HIV/AIDS was a significant component of the late princess’s heritage.
By 2030, Terrence Higgins Trust aims to eradicate new cases of HIV in England, making it the first country to achieve this goal.
Harry praised the charity for their efforts in changing the way HIV and AIDS are fought against, but cautioned that the work must continue until the task is complete.
Diana was a strong advocate in the fight against the discrimination of those affected by HIV and AIDS. She gained recognition for her act of shaking hands with patients in the 1990s, a time when there was a misconception that the virus could be transmitted through physical contact.
With that being said, this is what Harry had to say: “While my mother did not live to see the success of today’s treatments, I feel immense pride in being able to continue her advocacy with you.”
This comes on the back end of the Duke’s recent interview with trauma expert Dr. Gabor Mate. Harry disclosed that he had been diagnosed with PTSD by a therapist following his mother’s tragic death in a car accident in 1997.
Additionally, he mentioned that he had urged the Royal Family to seek therapy to better comprehend his perspective and communicate more effectively with him. Despite this being the case, Harry has set his eyes firmly on addressing HIV.
His following comments confirmed as much: “They need all of us to do our part by encouraging testing so we all know our status, eradicating stigma that thrives on silence.”
