Professional wrestling is one of the great mixing pots of talent in the world as we not only get to see some of the most gifted athletes around, but some of the best character actors as well.
Sure, there are always some that just get by or are forgettable, but that’s true in any entertainment or sports field. Wrestling allows men and women of all body types to perform and entertain fans to the best of their ability.
Impact Wrestling’s Bully Ray Admits He Isn’t a Good Wrestler
While there are plenty of great technical wrestlers like Bret Hart that can tell a story and those that are more entertainers like Hulk Hogan that found a way to grab the attention of millions, it all works out.
Wrestling gives us a little of everything and we can pick out which are our favorites and it goes from there. It’s how some wrestlers some thought would fail have such a strong connection with fans, while those a company thinks the world of fall on their face.
There is no set formula that’ll guarantee success, and that makes watching the journey so much fun.
Not a good wrestler
Love him or hate him, Bully Ray is one of the best performers of his generation. He’s known for being honest and blurring the line beautifully for his heel persona.
He recently appeared on Chris Van Vliet’s “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” and he talked about a range of topics, and one that really caught our attention was Bully saying he’s not a good wrestler.
Special thanks to Inside the Ropes for the transcript.
“I am very much a perfectionist when it comes to my business, my livelihood, wrestling, I’ve always been that way. When I say that I am not a very good wrestler, I’m not kidding. So I don’t, a lot of stuff that the guys today do, or the great mat wrestlers, when you think of guys like a Malenko, like a Guerrero, I never had that ability, I never had that skill.
“What I was good at was the storytelling and the character and the smoke and mirrors and the use of everything else at my disposal to create something that might be more interesting than just a regular wrestling match. So I play to my strengths, I know what my weaknesses are, I try to keep them by my side. That is the beauty of this business, you don’t have to do what you are not good at doing.”
Bully summed it up perfectly, and while he may not be the best wrestler, he more than makes up for it with his storytelling and ring presence. Since his return to Impact Wrestling, he’s put on a heel clinic that’s second only to MJF in AEW.
