It is believed that Sophie Wessex is no longer required to curtsy to Meghan Markle due to her new title, Duchess of Edinburgh, and she is reportedly feeling relieved about it.
Sophie Wessex Allegedly Relieved That She Longer Has To Curtsy To Meghan
On Friday, 10th March 2023, King Charles III promoted Prince Edward to the title of Duke of Edinburgh, which resulted in his sister-in-law receiving the new title of Duchess of Edinburgh.
Sophie, as the Countess of Wessex, was required to show respect to Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, by curtsying to her because of Meghan’s higher rank.
However, it is rumored that their relationship has become tense since Meghan declined Sophie’s offer to be her lifelong mentor within the royal family. A friend close to Sophie had said the following: “Sophie is relieved.
She no longer has to curtsy to someone in the family who has not only left Royal duties but has spent the past three years criticising the institution that Sophie works so hard to support.”
Charles fulfilled the commitment made by the deceased Queen to Edward and Sophie by ultimately bestowing upon them the titles.
On Edward’s 59th birthday, Buckingham Palace announced that he would be granted the title that previously belonged to his late father, Prince Philip, for the duration of his lifetime.
The response on social media was mixed. A certain subset of people were of the view that the title that Edward had received should not apply out of respect to Philip since he was no longer alive.
Meanwhile, others slammed Meghan with some rather harsh comments. One person wrote: “Duke of Edinburgh title should have died with Philip.
“It was only made up and created for him. Keep the name for his young people’s charity Duke of Edinburgh Awards but that’s it.”
