Another edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown is coming to us here this evening. Not quite live but it’s coming all the same! In her quest to take the Women’s Tag Team Titles away from the Kabuki Warriors, tonight Alexa Bless faces Asuka in a singles match! My name is Jordan Huie, you are here with us at the Overtimer where as always you can expect a live recap and results from the show as they come, plus previews of everything to expect. I’m not looking at spoilers since I like to make predictions here, plus they’re not that easy to come by in general given the nature of these tapings. With Mania now fast approaching let’s not waste any time!
Alexa Bliss vs. Asuka
For the past few weeks, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross have been calling out the Kabuki Warriors for never coming to SmackDown to defend their tag titles. They’ve accused them of hiding on Raw to avoid them. In return, Asuka appeared a couple of weeks back to attack Alexa from behind during a tag match and cost them a victory. This caused Alexa to in turn challenge Asuka to this one on one match.
So it’s pretty clear that the direction is to have Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross challenge the Kabuki Warriors for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Apparently at one point there were plans to involve another team in the form of Beth Phoenix and Natalya but that fell through, so it’s looking like a straight 2-on-2 tag at the moment. However, reports have come that Asuka is among the several names who ended up missing the Mania card, both nights of which were taped this week.
Many have ended up not showing up to this event, whether by choice or simply being forced into quarantine. So it’s safe to say that plans have gotten pretty messy. But this show was taped a while ago so we might not see any hint of that, barring any hasty reshoots. As far as this match itself is concerned, I think it’s fair to say that Alexa Bliss will probably win, to help set up that tag title match they were meant to have. At the moment it’s unclear if they had any sort of substitution for this or if that match will simply be axed entirely.
