Christina Ricci shared that she faced the threat of legal action when she refused to take part in a scene involving sexual content.
Actress Christina Ricci Recalls Being Threatened With Legal Action After Refusing To Do Sex Scene
During a discussion about the evolution of Hollywood since the beginning of her acting career, the celebrity revealed the surprising experience.
Christina stated that she had a negative experience on a project where she was threatened with a lawsuit over disagreements about the filming of a sex scene.
In her comments on The View, she stated: “Someone threatened to sue me once because I didn’t want to do a sex scene in a certain way. It’s really changed.”
According to sources, Ricci had mentioned the lawsuit in a previous conversation with Sydney Sweeney for Variety’s Actors on Actors, but with less detail.
In that conversation, she acknowledged being threatened with a lawsuit but did not reveal that it was related to a sex scene. Ricci also highlighted the decrease in negative and shaming coverage of female actors as a positive change in the industry during the segment.
Whoopi Goldberg then commented on a conversation about the hit TV series Yellowjackets and expressed her surprise at the strong bond between the young actresses on the show, which she didn’t recall experiencing herself.
She speculated that the reason for this difference could be attributed to the fact that she was mainly surrounded by adults, whereas the current cast has more peers to interact with.
Regardless of the case, Ricci recognized that there had been changes to the industry. She added: “‘It’s really great. Us older ladies talk about it all the time.
“It’s amazing to see that they don’t necessarily have to go through the things we had to go through. They’re able to say, I don’t want to do this sex scene, I’m not going to be naked.”
The response on social media was one of shock. Large numbers of people spoke out against the Hollywood industry on the basis that it was taking advantage of actors by pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable.
And in the process, people understood the struggles that Ricci had been through. One person wrote: “They took her self esteem and made her a person who couldn’t see her own worth, someone who measured her worth is the gaze of others.
“That’s an incredibly vulnerable position to be in. You can see the repercussions of that throughout her life. She’s had to fight demons given to her by other people and she’s still standing, still fighting, still pushing back. Good on her.”
