Prince William Speaks Out Against Racism At Football Clubs-‘No Place In Our Society’
The Football Association’s president, the Prince of Wales, expressed his deep concern over the experiences shared by some individuals and emphasized the need to hold accountable those responsible for the situation.
In November, Alpha United Juniors, a team located in Bradford, publicly addressed the issue of young players as young as seven being subjected to insults and even violent threats from spectators on the sidelines, which had been going on for years.
Prince William’s private secretary sent a letter on his behalf to the FA regarding the claims. The letter confirmed that the Prince had reached out to the FA with the following comments: “Racism and abuse has no place in our society.
“Abhorrent behaviour of this nature must stop now and all those responsible be held to account.” In January, Mohammed Waheed, who is the chair of Alpha United, wrote a letter to Kensington Palace stating that he had reached out to the FA several times.
The prince replied to his letter, as Waheed then went public with his complaint as he was dissatisfied with the investigation process of the West Riding FA. In addition, he disclosed that he has been contacted by approximately 40 clubs from all over the country.
In an official statement on behalf of West Riding, a representative stated the following: “We strongly condemn all forms of discrimination and we will always do our utmost to hold perpetrators to account.”
The response on social media was mixed. A certain subset of people made it clear that this was a cause that should be championed, with the Prince of Wales coming out in a positive manner.
Meanwhile, others criticized William on the grounds that he had to adopt the same energy against the firm, as per the accusations of racism against the palace in the past.
One person wrote: “Maybe he knows it goes both ways and helps both ways. It doesn’t say he doesn’t,” while another person stated: “Or deeply concerned about homeless troops after him and his family sent to war and never looked after them when they came home.”
