Claims that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could appear on the balcony during the coronation ceremony of King Charles III have been dismissed by a source close to the royal family.
Harry And Meghan Won’t Appear On Palace Balcony-Says Angela Mollard
Royal expert Angela Mollard made these remarks after reports emerged that the Sussexes had requested to participate in the coronation ceremony on May 6th, 2023, by appearing on the balcony, and that this was a prerequisite for their attendance.
Queen Victoria commenced the royal custom of standing on the balcony at Buckingham Palace in 1851. This tradition is usually observed during significant occasions.
In the era of Queen Elizabeth II, the balcony would occasionally accommodate over twenty-four family members.
Before Meghan and Harry stepped down from their royal duties in January 2020, they were present for the annual Trooping the Colour celebration and made an appearance on the balcony.
With that being said, the chances of the Sussexes doing this again have been downplayed. In her comments, Angela said: “People loathe them.
“There is no chance they’ll appear on the balcony. The Queen wanted a slimmed down Monarchy (and) Charles is further enforcing that.”
In addition to this, royal expert Louise Roberts believes that the Sussexes might try to leverage the coronation event to sustain their status as popular figures in the United States.
Harry and Meghan’s choice to name their kids Prince and Princess was a calculated move to hold onto their royal position while simultaneously expressing their dislike towards the institution.
She also alleges that the royal family perceives the couple as a burden due to their disclosure of private discussions in their Netflix documentary and Harry’s book, Spare.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “It’s a simple equation for the Sussexes: their value is their proximity to the royal family. It’s another dose of hypocrisy from them.
“They’re only relevant if they have currency with the royal family.” The response on social media was damning. Large numbers of people were of the view that the couple were not welcome at the Coronation.
This was on the basis that the couple had created too much damage. Therefore, there was no way of reconciling things. One person wrote: “Making demands as usual. Nobody wants to see them.”
