In September of 2022, the final episode of NXT’s second brand, NXT UK, aired. Since that time, talks about a new NXT brand called NXT Europe and other territories have been talked about and now, the first bits of news about that brand have been revealed.
WWE Plans to Launch NXT Europe by the End of the Year According to Shawn Michaels
A month before the final weekly episode of NXT UK, WWE announced their plans for the global expansion of their developmental brands. These rumors included a possible NXT Japan, NXT Mexico, and NXT Canada, but the one rumor that was confirmed was the future of NXT UK.
Recently, Alex McCarthy from Sportsmail interviewed NXT creative lead and on-air General Manager, Shawn Michaels, and this is what he had to say about NXT Europe:
“Things are still in the organizational stage and we are hoping we will have that up and running by the end of 2023. I’m really learning. It isn’t something you just throw together, especially if you want to set it up for success. I think everyone would feel a bit more comfortable if it takes a little bit longer to make sure we cross every t and dot every i, but still looking forward to trying to make that a reality by the end of 2023.” (h/t: Wrestling Inc)
Shawn Michaels’ Influence on NXT’s Global Brands
Before the closure of the NXT UK brand in September 2022, Michaels worked closely with many of the talents their as well as having input in the creative side of things.
Moving forward, I think that his influence on the new global brands many be even greater due to his position in the flagship NXT brand. Having Michaels’ input in the new brands could mean a smoother transition from those brands to the main brand and even to the main roster in the future.
Also, Shawn could help keep future storylines in order and help the younger wrestlers over in those areas with his vast wrestling knowledge.
