According to royal author Gareth Russell, King Charles III plans to extend another gesture of reconciliation to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, which is a pattern that has been consistent throughout his life.
King Charles Will Try To Build Bridges With The Sussexes-Says Gareth Russell
The specialist emphasized that King Charles’ method of establishing relationships with Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson is an indication of his desire to form alliances with Royal Family members.
After the passing of King George V in January 1936, Edward VIII became the ruler of the UK. Nonetheless, he decided to abdicate from his position as the country’s head of state in December of the same year.
This was because he was given an ultimatum to choose between his love interest, Wallis Simpson, and his role as king. In 1937, the couple got married and received the Duke and Duchess of Windsor titles.
However, Edward’s authority and prestige were not preserved as before. With that being said, this is what Russel had to say: “He was one of the only members of the Royal Family who was prepared to go over to Paris to visit his great-uncle, Edward VIII, and Wallis Simpson.
“He said to the Queen Mother and to the Queen, ‘I think we should try to build bridges between this side of the family’.” If those comments are taken to be true, then it is significant for the following reasons.
First of all, it may explain why the monarch decided to reach out and invite the Sussexes to the Coronation. After all, he did wish them the best in their lives overseas during his first speech to the nation.
And yet, this act shows he is keen on reconciling. Secondly, it is clear that Charles’ approach to the monarchy will be to keep all people on side as much as possible.
This is especially since he is not the most popular monarch at present, given that he was subjected to two egg-throwing incidents. Russel added: “He thought his great-uncle and aunt should be brought back into the fold a bit.
“So there is a past track record of Charles doing things like this and, in that sense, it tracks as consistent with what we know of him as a person.”
Charles may have good intentions when it comes to the Sussexes, but one thing for sure is that the interests of the firm will always come out on top.
