Christina Applegate strongly criticized Candace Owens‘ reaction to an advertisement that showcased a model using a wheelchair.
Christina Applegate Blasts Candace Owens’ Alleged Ableist Comments-‘It’s Fu****g Gross’
A clip from last year has resurfaced in which Candace expressed her opposition to an inclusive advertisement by SKIMS. This advertisement seemed to have resonated with Applegate, who received a diagnosis for Multiple Sclerosis.
Owens expressed dissatisfaction with the SKIMS advertisement, deeming it absurd for its inclusion of wheelchairs. This led to some claims that Owens was being ableist.
Ableism refers to the unfair treatment and bias against individuals with disabilities due to the belief that those without disabilities have superior abilities.
In some prior comments, Owen stated: “I’m just getting tired of this all-inclusivity thing. Look, I assume that people who are in wheelchairs also have to buy bras, also have to buy underwear.
“I didn’t know that we needed to see that in our face.” Those comments did not sit very well with Applegate, as she does suffer from Multiple Sclerosis.
This condition can have an impact on the brain and spinal cord, leading to various potential symptoms such as issues with balance, sensation, vision, and movement of limbs.
The condition is a lifelong one and may result in severe disabilities in some cases. Applegate attended the SAG Awards, marking it as her final awards show appearance. With that being said, she had a few choice words to say about Owens.
In her comments, she said: “Yes late tweet. But woke to see the most horrifying thing. This Candace person making comments about companies who see we need help.
“It’s fu****g gross. I thank skims and Tommy and Guide beauty and @neowalksticks for seeing http://us.To you #youshouldknowbetter.”
The response on social media was firmly in favor of Applegate. This was on the grounds that Owens appeared to be ignorant of the issue since she could not see the perspective of those who would have benefited from those products that Owens spoke out against.
One person wrote: “Candace Owens there is a difference btwn seeing representation at all versus everywhere… find something to be happy about for once versus another thing to whine about please.”
It is fair to say that this was not Owens’ finest moment, and the sooner this dies down, the better it is for everyone involved. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
