It’s rare that a professional wrestling company will sign someone to a contract before they’re even able to appear on TV – but AEW took that risk on Nick Wayne.
Signed to a unique apprenticeship contract in 2022 when Wayne was just 16 years old – AEW invested in one of the brightest rising stars in the industry. He’s only gotten better since he signed that deal, and we now know when he will make his debut on AEW Dynamite.
Nick Wayne To Make AEW Debut In July Against Swerve Strickland
Following a match with Swerve Strickland which saw Wayne win the DEFY World Championship – the debut of Wayne in AEW would be set for the July 12th episode of AEW Dynamite.
This show is a day after Wayne turns 18 years old – making him able to appear in the ring for AEW. If Wayne remains DEFY World Champion by the time this match comes, the belt will be on the line.
Nick Wayne has found many supporters since making his debut in 2018, and is a third generation wrestler, being the son of Buddy Wayne.
Often compared to a young Will Ospreay, Wayne started off with a high flying style, but has been becoming much more well rounded with each match.
He’s essentially been given a major chance to make an impact in AEW, and has ensured that when he hits TV – he’s ready for the spotlight.
It’d be easy to get a contract at 16 and just take it easy until you get to TV, but Wayne is the definition of someone with the right work ethic to prove that he is worth the hype.
Wayne has a few more months to prepare for the biggest match of his career, and should improve even more. Fans are hopefully in for a treat when he meets Swerve in July – and Wayne should keep improving from there.
He’s not expected to walk onto TV and step into the main event scene immediately – but could climb the ranks in time.
