Tomorrow night, we get the latest chapter in the rivalry of Jon Moxley & Kenny Omega’s ongoing rivalry in AEW. Having been built up since the start of AEW at Double or Nothing 2023.
They’ve met in a Lights Out match, battled over the AEW World Championship at Winter Is Coming 2020, and even brought a Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch to United States fans. Now, they will meet in a steel cage – and while they have their on screen issues, Kenny Omega has a deep respect for Moxley.
Kenny Omega Calls Jon Moxley The True MVP Of AEW
While speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Kenny Omega would discuss his rivalry with Moxley, and how there is a mutual respect between them – as they both have passion for professional wrestling.
“There is a mutual respect. We respect where we’ve been, what we’re trying to do and where we’re going,” “
Omega would even go on to state that while some fans view him as the MVP of AEW, that title belongs with Jon Moxley – who truly has left his blood, sweat and tears in the ring since 2019.
“If I’m being honest, the MVP of AEW hasn’t been me. It’s Jon Moxley. For AEW, Jon’s been the one. He’s been at almost every show. He’s bled at almost every show. There is no one higher on the blood-giving list. Maybe that’s what makes this feud so interesting. It’s someone with the notoriety from Japan against someone who was a top player from WWE. And Jon hasn’t stopped working. I was injured, but now that I’m healed up, it’s beautiful that we can restart the song and dance between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley.”
When it comes to matches between Moxley and Omega – Omega has won two of their encounters. Moxley only has a win in a Lights Out match – which doesn’t count in the eyes of AEW, being unsanctioned. This leads many fans to expect a Moxley victory tomorrow in a steel cage, a match which suits his violent nature.
