Despite the planned match of Roman Reigns vs. Goldberg not having happened, we still have a new Universal Champion. This came in the Monster Among Men, Braun Strowman. He absorbed four spears from the legendary Goldberg, and would deliver back a series of vicious powerslams to win his first world title in a mere two minutes. Fans were quick to complain, knowing that he will be losing this title to Roman Reigns at the first chance, but can Braun Strowman prove to be more than just a transitiational champion?
Braun Strowman Is One Of The Most Popular Men In WWE Today
While he might not be putting on technical marvels, there is always a place in wrestling for a behemoth of a man who can throw people around like children. That is what Braun has been doing since his days in the Wyatt Family, and continues to do now. Add in some charisma to match his size, and some respectable agility and you have a fan favorite. WWE are determined to make Roman Reigns their big star, while others grow organically around him. While fans have complained about this win, many were happy to finally see him win the big one.
Strowman Could Be A Dominant Full Time Champion
While he recently lost the Intercontentental Championship to Sami Zayn, that was in a 3 on 1 handicap match. It is very hard to stop Strowman in a one on one contest, with few being able to do so. Because of this, we could see a champion that could be as dominant as Brock Lesnar, while being able to show up full time and have the belt on TV constantly. There are potential feuds with the likes of Jeff Hardy, The Fiend, and Roman Reigns to keep things interesting, with each being able to offer a different type of match. They could still have Roman win the title back in the end, but once live shows are back in action, they need to give us the match with Goldberg, giving time for Strowman to reign. They built that match up, and while COVID-19 is worse for booking than Vince Russo in a writers room, it can still happen in the future.
