It’s easy to say that the spirit of World Championship Wrestling lives on in the form of All Elite Wrestling. While WWE owns the WCW tape library, AEW regularly features stars from the past of WCW, and is paying tribute to Monday Nitro with the logo design of AEW Collision. Two names from WCW who are top names in AEW are Chris Jericho & Sting – but don’t expect them to lock up anytime soon.
The Ocho Wants Nothing To Do With The Icon
While replying to a fan on Twitter, Chris Jericho would shut down any chance of him working a match with Sting. When the dream match was brought up, Jericho had the following response.
“It’ll never happen. Not interested.”
Admittedly, it’s hard to take someone like Jericho seriously on social media – as if he’s on the internet, he’s on the clock. He is someone who is always working fans, and building potential matches and feuds. Given AEW is looking to have a strong card to send fans in Wembley Stadium home happy – an encounter between Jericho & Sting is a promising prospect.
It’s unlikely to be a singles match, as Sting has exclusively worked tag team matches since joining AEW in 2020 – mainly teaming with his protege Darby Allin.
A match between Sting & Allin and Le Sex Gods (the tag team of Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara) is incredibly easy to slot onto a big card, putting four of the bigger draws in the company on a major show like All In.
Chris Jericho Has Stated AEW Is Not Nostalgia Hour
In a 2022 interview with Matt Hardy, Jericho would speak against the idea of running nostalgia matches on AEW – preferring to build up younger names. If he’s being serious about having no interest working with Sting, During that interview – Jericho was quoted saying the following.
“The key to us staying at a certain level is working with younger guys because it elevates them and elevates us, too. All my programs here in AEW have been with younger guys. I could work with Matt, I could work with Christian, we don’t have to. We’ve done that before. This is not fucking nostalgia hour.”
The difference in a match against Sting is that it has never happened. He’s faced Matt Hardy & Christian Cage – but a match against Sting is fresh, and would help to further elevate Allin & Guevara.
