We’re seeing some historic reigns happen in WWE right now. Roman Reigns has passed 1000 days as WWE Universal Champion, making him one of the longest reigning World Champions in the history of the company.
However, another legendary reign is happening with the WWE Intercontinental Champion. GUNTHER recently passed one year as champion, and is closing in on the record set by the Honky Tonk Man back in the 80’s – and feels this would be the biggest accomplishment in his career.
GUNTHER Feels It Would Be An Honor To Break The Elusive 454 Day Record
During an interview with Rick Ucchino on Cincy 3:60, GUNTHER would be asked about the chance of him breaking the 454 day record set by the Honky Tonk Man all the way back in 1988. The leader of Imperium had the following to say about this potential accolade.
“It would be, obviously, a great accomplishment and maybe the biggest accomplishment of my career, to that date. But also, there’s still some time to go, and I try to focus on what’s right in front of me and make the best out of that situation. I don’t try to get caught up in the future with what ifs and what could happen, even though it’s not that far away. I think once it’s all said and done, I’ll be able to lean back and enjoy it a little bit. It would be very rewarding and a big accomplishment,”
A True Workhorse Champion
Over the past year, GUNTHER has managed 11 successful televised title defences. His latest saw him crush Mustafa Ali in Saudi Arabia, and matches against former World Champions like Drew McIntyre & Sheamus throughout the reign are some of the most acclaimed in the history of the belt. Including non-televised defences, he’s at 56 successful defences. He’s the definition of a workhorse champion, and came close to winning the 2023 Royal Rumble – lasting 74 minutes before being eliminated by Cody Rhodes.
