So, what WWE superstar is rumored to be the next winner of the 2024 Royal Rumble? The name on most lips is the current WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther—and supposedly, it’s on WWE’s as well.
Gunther Rumored to be the WWE’s Pick to Win 2024 Royal Rumble
Since hitting the main roster, Gunther has ridden a strong wave of momentum as has his Imperium faction. Gunther impressed in his Royal Rumble debut after entering at number one. The early numbers are typically the iron horse positions on the card since someone within the first four or five entrants will be expected to really put in time.
That’s even if their eliminations are low or get eliminated before the final four. Just holding it down and logging minutes. The Rumble is a game of survival, after all. In Gunther’s case, the man ran the entire race before getting tossed out by Cody Rhodes. His performance also established the new record for surviving in the Royal Rumble with an hour 11 minutes and 25 seconds.
Things point to Gunther taking the Rumble in 2024 unless it simply becomes the one victory that evades him. It appears that his performances have not only wowed fans but also those handling business and creative. Those performances have led to speculation that he could be penciled in to face Brock Lesnar or Roman Reigns in pretty short order.
It’s the first time in a while that a talent from the third brand or developmental impressed out of the gate for WWE—despite having impressed fans for years in NXT and NXT UK. Of course, it’s only midway through the year and other top candidates could arise before January 2024 and anything could happen in that time. At the moment, Gunther has targeted Matt Riddle on WWE RAW, recently stating that he hoped Riddle cashed in on him.
It would definitely add some unpredictability to the MITB opportunity as it’s usually cashed in for a World Championship title shot.
