In a fast moving industry like professional wrestling, it is important to keep improving. Even if you’ve won championships in a company like WWE, you could still find room for improvement.
A key example of this is Apollo Crews. Having won the WWE United States Championship, few doubted the in-ring skills of Crews, but he knew there was room to grow when it came to his promos. Thankfully, a WWE Hall of Famer was ready to help him out.
Apollo Crews Got Major Help From Edge In 2020
During a video celebrating 25 years of Edge in WWE, Crews would reveal that while Edge was out with an injury – he would help Crews get more comfortable on camera and with a microphone in hand.
“He had reached out to me when he sat with his triceps injury and wanted to help me with some of my promo work and he helped me a lot to find that comfort and just being comfortable on camera and being comfortable on a microphone. Thank you for all the help and for taking your time to sit down and help me become a better WWE Superstar. Congratulations again and wish you nothing but the best.”
After 2020, The Improvements Were Clear
Following advice from Edge, Crews would debut a Nigerian Prince character, which saw him win the Intercontinental Championships at WrestleMania 37. This showed Crews had the ability to play a character, instead of just being a good wrestler who smiled a lot.
We would further see these improvements on clear display when Crews would return to the NXT brand, where he would feud with the likes of Bron Breakker, Grayson Waller & Carmelo Hayes.
Crews showed a new level to his promo game during these feuds, something he now brings to Monday Night RAW after the 2023 WWE Draft.
The help he got from Edge ensured that Crews was able to push beyond his ceiling in WWE – leading him to not be left directionless in the company any longer. While he hasn’t been raised to a main event level – that could come in time.
