MJF is a busy man right now as the AEW World Champion. He just got done with a Fatal Four Way match at Double Or Nothing, wrestled a time limit draw with Adam Cole, and now is being forced into a match against Hiroshi Tanahashi.
MJF doesn’t respect New Japan Pro Wrestling, viewing them as a low rent indy promotion that isn’t worth his time. However, Adam Cole would goad MJF into accepting the match by calling him a coward if he didn’t take it.
Tanahashi is a living legend, one of the most decorated champions in Japanese wrestling – he’s not just looking for another championship, but is fighting for the reputation of NJPW itself.
Is The Ace Of The Universe On The Level Of The Devil?
A robe stating “New Japan Is An Indie” would be worn by MJF on his way down to the ring, making his feelings very clear.
The packed crowd would be excited as the bell rang, and MJF worked to get into the head of Tanahashi – but was unable to rent space. MJF would get a kick to the midsection before being driven to the floor by a shoulder tackle.
Tanahashi would watch as MJF walked up the ramp, before starting a coward chant – attacking the insecurities of the champion.
MJF would come back to the ring to prove he’s no coward, trying to get a cheap kick in on Tanahashi before taking a hard swat to the jaw. Using the referee as a shield, MJF would be able to get the upper hand before dropping Tanahashi across the top rope.
MJF would focus in on the midsection, before Tanahashi got a two count off a roll up – only to end up in the Cobra Twist. Despite claiming no respect for NJPW, MJF did his homework – knowing the finisher of the founder of the company, Antonio Inoki.
MJF would look for a DQ by being caught holding the rope and telling the referee to do something about it. The referee kicked his hand instead, and Tanahashi took control.
A running forearm smash would drop MJF before some hard strikes. Scoop Slam set up the Flipping Senton, getting a near fall in the process.
MJF would stop Tanahashi on the top rope, only to be shoved off into the Ace’s High. Tanahashi tried for the High Fly Flow – but MJF would hit the ropes, causing Tanahahsi to lose his footing. MJF would take him down the hard way, using a Superplex.

MJF would hit a shoulder breaker on Tanahashi, with the knee of MJF buckling as a result. He’d spit on Tanahashi before calling him a joke, and hitting some mocking kick.
Tanahashi would fire up, but took a poke to the eye from MJF. However, his eyes were working to see MJF limp, and knew a Dragon Screw was a perfect move.
The leg whip would take MJF down for the Texas Cloverleaf. MJF was able to get to the bottom rope, but unable to get Tanahashi up for the superplex, taking Twist & Shout instead. The neckbreaker was followed by a Slingblade, before the High Fly Flow met the knees of MJF.
MJF would try to use the AEW World Championship to bash Tanahashi, and the referee would disarm him. Tanahashi got a visual pinfall, but the referee was not there to count the pinfall. MJF would shove Tanahashi into the referee and used the Dynamite Diamond Ring for a KO punch – ending this match. MJF was forced to cheat to win, but remains the champion as he’s helped to the back.
