At WrestleMania 39, John Cena was defeated by Austin Theory – and some felt that would be the last time we saw him in 2023. However, when his music hit – The O2 Arena would explode as Cena had made the trip overseas to surprise everyone. The 16 time World Champion, one of the greatest in WWE history was here – but what was he planning?
John Cena Wants To Bring WrestleMania Overseas
Cena was caught off guard, used to fans in the UK chanting ‘John Cena sucks’ – so a bunch of cheers were welcome. Some fans and wrestlers don’t enjoy UK fans, feeling they try to take things over – but Cena doesn’t feel that way. They are the heart of wrestling, they are the show, and Cena will always find time for them.
But why did he show up tonight? Cena would say that he is here because the world is watching, and wanted to tell everyone that UK fans are underappreciated.
He’s here tonight because he’s big on respect, and UK crowds earned his respect. They make shows more exciting with their presence, they chant, cheer and enjoy the show.
Cena is here, because he wants to bring WrestleMania to London for the fans in the UK. He wants to make the people in charge hear what WrestleMania would sound like in London.
After some cheers, he’d be met by the music of Grayson Waller. Waller is a big fan of Cena – but doesn’t like him lying to fans.
No one wants WrestleMania in London, everyone wants it somewhere nice if it goes international – somewhere like Australia. Waller doesn’t know if Cena could get a spot on a WrestleMania at this point, losing every singles match he’s had for a few years. Cena is washed up – but one viral moment can help him.
Waller is great at that, and one viral moment can save his career. A moment like a special episode of The Grayson Waller Effect at WrestleMania Australia – so Cena can get the hometown rub.
Cena would turn this down, and was attacked from behind. Waller got some strikes in, before falling to the Attitude Adjustment.
Trish Stratus Enters First Ever Ladder Match
Since 2018, the women of WWE have gotten in on the fun of Money in the Bank – and have carved out some history as a result. Tonight, we will see a WWE Hall of Famer enter the field for the first time with Trish Stratus, who has her protege Zoey Stark at her side.
Also in the field is Becky Lynch, Bayley, Iyo Sky, & Zelina Vega – making this a match that anyone can win. The reward is simple – whoever wins gets a title shot whenever they want, almost ensuring they will become champion.
Stark & Stratus would immediately go after their recent rival of Lynch – leaving Vega to deal with the Damage CTRL duo of Bayley & Sky. Vega would be wedged under a ladder and stomped – before Stark & Stratus marched to the ring. They would work together to take Bayley out before Sky would try for a moonsault and was stopped.
Lynch would throw a ladder at Stark & Stratus, with Stratus avoiding and slipping into the ring with a ladder. Bayley & Vega would stop them from setting things up, with Sky stopping Vega – giving Bayley time to get a better ladder to climb with.
Vega would be able to stop Bayley from climbing before hitting a diving hurricanrana on Sky. Damage CTRL would regroup and pull Vega into the ladder before both trying to climb.
Lynch would take Bayley down with a dropkick, before Stark got involved and was driven face first into the canvas. Lynch tried to set up the Disarmher using the ladder – but Stratus would save Stark before trying to climb but being stopped by Sky & Vega. Vega would set up a ladder in the corner, and pulled Stratus to it, and climbed off her to reach the case.
Becky Lynch Deals With Her Rivals
Stark was there to save the match, before Bayley & Lynch arrived with another ladder. Lynch was taken down, and Bayley hit the jumping elbow drop from the ladder.
Sky would start her climb, but instead of grabbing the case, would take flight with a highlight reel ready moonsault. Noticing an opening – Stratus would try to climb, but Lynch was there to stop her.
She was able to shove Stratus off, but Stark was there to stop Lynch. Vega would sneak in and climb the ladder, but jump off using a knee strike. Sky would try a springboard dropkick, but missed Vega and was taken out. Lynch & Stratus would work together on a powerbomb, before going back to a brawl.
Damage CTRL would get involved once again, wedging a ladder and setting up a ladder bridge using the ropes – only for Bayley to hit it face first. Lynch was run into the ring post and Stark pulled out handcuffs. Stark would put the first cuff on, but was unable to secure Lynch to the ring post.
Iyo Sky Shows She’s Not Just The Genius Of The Sky
Losing focus of the match – Lynch would instead focus on trying to destroy her rivals using the announce desk, sending Stratus into a ladder with the Manhandle Slam, before taking a diving blockbuster from Stark.
Vega would climb in the ring, but was met by Stark. She would use a sandal to beat Stark over the head before a Sunset Flip Powerbomb through a ladder.
Sky would be seconds away from a win after a climb, but Bayley tipped the ladder over. Bayley would climb the ladder – ready to win her second Money In The Bank contract, but was stopped by Lynch. Using the uncuffed handcuff to fish hook the mouth of Bayley, she’d drag her down.
Sky would come to help Bayley, setting it up to handcuff Bayley & Lynch together through the ladder. Now, she would climb over Bayley, to the briefcase, and winning Money in The Bank match in the process.
