The main event of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 was a dream match for many fans. AEW’s Bryan Danielson would lock up with NJPW’s Kazuchika Okada, two men with claims to being the best professional wrestler in the world.
What would follow was a brutal thirty minute clash, leaving Bryan Danielson with a broken arm – but a win to his name. Okada felt the fury Danielson had to offer, and won’t be rushing into a rematch – despite wanting to defeat Danielson.
Kazuchika Okada Would Love To Break Danielson’s Arm Again, But Is In No Rush To Face Him Again
While speaking with Tokyo Sports, Kazuchika Okada would have a chance to speak about his most recent main event match – and had the following to say about facing Danielson.
“I was the last to enter the ring, but I felt like AEW had taken me over. Bryan came out of nowhere for the ‘Final Countdown,’ and I thought he took the air with him. I felt that I had experienced American wrestling this time. I don’t think it’s right for me to play the card that everyone was excited about so much, and to play it again. I don’t want to get there easily. But if there is a time to return the favor, I’d like to win even if I have to break one or two more arms firmly. I hope I can do it at the right time.”
Okada is now gearing up for the G1 Climax tournament, a month long round robin tournament. He’s a strong favorite to win the B-Block, with a rematch against A-Block favorite Kaito Kiyomiya being expected for the semi-finals.
Okada will wrestle YOSHI-HASHI, Taichi, KENTA, Will Ospreay, Great-O-Khan, El Phantasmo & Tanga Loa over the course of the tournament.
If Danielson is able to recover from his injuries, Wrestle Kingdom in January 2024 would be a fitting spot for their next match – with the Tokyo Dome being a venue Danielson has wanted to get back to.
Considering their first match was hampered by an injury to Danielson, it still being one of the best matches of June was a clear sign of what they’re capable of. Who do you think would win a rematch? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
