On WWE Smackdown on July 14, there was a curious segment where Shotzi responded to Bayley and IYO SKY for cutting her hair by cutting a promo where she said it doesn’t intimidate her and she proceeded to shave her head with a razor.
It’s not surprising as it appears her character is shifting into a different version, but there appears to be a more personal reason as Shotzi took to her Instagram stories to give a tribute to her sister: “I love you sister! You are my inspiration!”
It’s a fitting tribute, and the GoFundMe page they set up for her sister explains it in greater detail.
“We’ve created a go fund me to help Shawn with her recovery from surgery and whatever else she needs during her battle with cancer.
For our friends and family who aren’t aware, Shawn got diagnosed with Liver Cancer during the holidays and will be going into treatment starting this week.
Liver cancer is rare and is a type of Cancer that chemo therapy can’t cure alone. So she’s scheduled to get a hepatectomy, and will have a portion of her liver removed – about 1/4 – 1/2. So we are hoping to raise enough funds to help her during this treatment and recovery period as she has been out of work while she’s on the mend.
We are praying for Shawn’s speedy recovery, and we know she’s going beat cancers ass.
We thank you in advance for your contribution and for being a rad human beings.
With Love,
Shawn’s family and Friends.”
An update
There were a couple of following updates, with the last one being in February where they said the surgery to remove the tumor was a success, but she’ll need chemotherapy treatments as the cancer spread.
“Hi family and friends,
“Another update for you, the surgery went well and Shawn is recovering well from it. But Shawn was officially staged with stage III B cholangiocarcinoma because found that the cancer had spread to 1 of her lymph nodes after testing 7 of them post surgery. And will have to start chemo therapy as soon as possible to stop the spread for 6 months.
“Thank you to all of you who’ve contributed so far and for sharing this gofundme.”
We’re sending our best wishes to Shawnee and her family that she’ll recover and it’s great to see Shotzi showing support for her.
While we linked to the GoFundMe above, here it is again if you’d like to donate.
